Do I need experience to volunteer?
No. Most people who join MHC have never done street outreach or evangelism before. New volunteers go out alongside experienced team members first, and anyone interested in evangelism specifically can go through SENT Sessions training before heading out.
How much time does it take?
It depends on how involved you want to be. Some volunteers join outreach once a month, others show up weekly. There's no minimum commitment to get started — the sign-up form is the best way to see what's happening near you and pick what fits your schedule.
Which cities does MHC serve?
Making Heaven Crowded operates in two cities: Tampa, Florida and Gainesville, Florida. Those are the only two branches right now, each with its own outreach team, volunteer sign-up, and social account.
What does a typical outreach look like?
A team walks a set area — often downtown or near a college campus — carrying food, water, and hygiene items to hand out. Volunteers talk with the people they meet, meet practical needs where they can, and share the Gospel in conversation. It's relational, not scripted.
Is volunteering only for street outreach?
No. MHC also has a college ministry reaching students, an evangelism training track (SENT Sessions), and a prayer team for people who want to support the work without being on the street themselves.
What should I bring or wear?
Comfortable closed-toe shoes and weather-appropriate clothing for Florida heat or rain. Water for yourself is a good idea too. Specific outreach logistics are shared with volunteers after they sign up.
Can I volunteer if I'm not a strong public speaker?
Yes. Most of outreach is listening and simple conversation, not public speaking. Volunteers who want deeper training in sharing their faith can go through SENT Sessions, but it isn't required to join a team.
