Discipleship training at Making Heaven Crowded is SENT Sessions: MHC's evangelism training initiative, designed to equip disciples with the biblical knowledge, practical skills, and confidence necessary to proclaim the Gospel. It is not a weekend seminar that ends in a certificate. It is built around three steps — Equipped by the Word, Trained in Truth, Sent into the World — and the last step happens outdoors, in Tampa or Gainesville.

Our desire is for those who participate to not only learn about evangelism but to actively live as disciples who are willing to go.

The framework exists because "make disciples" is a command, not a suggestion. Matthew 28:18–20, the Great Commission, is the passage the whole ministry is built on: go and make disciples of all nations, teaching them to obey what Jesus commanded. Discipleship training is how Making Heaven Crowded takes that literally rather than leaving it as a slogan on a wall.

1. Equipped by the Word

Grounding what you believe, and what you say, in Scripture rather than opinion. This step is deliberately first: a disciple who cannot say where a claim comes from will not hold up under a real question on the street.

2. Trained in Truth

Practising the conversation itself, including the hard questions people actually ask — not the easy ones a textbook expects. Volunteers train with each other before they train in front of a stranger.

3. Sent into the World

The training ends on the street, in downtown Tampa or downtown Gainesville, with an experienced volunteer walking alongside a new one. Nobody trains in a room and stops there.

Discipleship training is not the whole mission; it is the part that makes the rest of it possible. Making Heaven Crowded’s eight-point vision includes four commitments that a trained disciple is what actually carries out on the street:

Proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ
Reach people from all backgrounds and walks of life
Serve individuals in practical ways
Build genuine relationships with the people we encounter

None of those four happen from a stage or a strategy document. They happen when a volunteer who has been through Equipped by the Word and Trained in Truth is standing in front of an actual person in downtown Tampa or Gainesville, deciding in real time how to serve them practically and speak to them honestly. That is the gap discipleship training closes, between believing something is true and being able to live it out with a stranger who has never heard it before.

That is also why SENT Sessions is not offered as a one-time class. What is taught in a session is tested at that week’s outreach, not stored up for a later trip, and a volunteer who is still unsure how to answer a hard question can ask about it again before the next one. The three steps repeat as a cycle a volunteer keeps returning to, not a ladder someone climbs once and leaves behind.
