That is the whole method, and it is simpler than most people expect. A team meets, packs what it is going to hand out, prays together, and then splits into small groups and walks. You stop when someone is willing to stop. You ask their name. You listen to the answer.
Often the conversation ends right there, and that is a good outcome — a person was treated like a person instead of being walked past. Often it goes further. Someone asks why a group of strangers is out handing out sandwiches on a Saturday, and you get to say plainly that you believe Jesus Christ is worth knowing, and ask whether you can pray with them.
Why conversation, not confrontation

Making Heaven Crowded is deliberately not a megaphone on a street corner. The reason is in 1 Corinthians 9:19–23: Paul is calling us to find a common ground, and build a real trust. He does this so that he can share the gospel in all its blessings. Common ground first, real trust second, and the Gospel shared inside a genuine relationship rather than shouted across one.
In practice that changes almost everything about how an outreach feels. A volunteer is not working through a script and is not trying to win an argument. Food and water are handed over with no conditions attached — nobody has to listen to a word to be given a sandwich. If someone says they are not interested, the honest answer is “no problem, take the water anyway.”
It also means the same team that walks past someone one week tends to recognise them the next. Downtown Gainesville is not large. Relationships build across weeks, not minutes, and the conversations that matter most are usually the third or fourth one, not the first.

Downtown Gainesville on a weekend is not one kind of person. Teams talk with individuals experiencing homelessness, with students and young adults, with people on a shift break, and with whoever happens to be walking the same block. Making Heaven Crowded exists to reach people from all backgrounds and walks of life, and the street is the most honest place to do that.

- No. The approach is conversational rather than confrontational. Teams walk, serve, listen, and talk with people one at a time. Nobody is required to listen to anything in order to be handed food or water, and nobody is pressured into a conversation they do not want.

- Comfortable shoes you can walk several miles in, water for yourself, and time. Everything handed out is packed by the team before the walk starts. The most useful thing a new volunteer brings is a willingness to listen longer than they talk.
