Christian outreach in Tampa, for Making Heaven Crowded, means walking downtown on foot with food and bottled water, giving it to whoever will take it, and talking with people about Jesus Christ. No stage, no microphone, no conditions. Volunteers also reach college students and young adults, and train each other to do all of it better.
The order of that sentence is deliberate. The food comes first because the food is what starts the conversation. This ministry began with granola bars, fruit and water bought at Publix and handed out downtown, and that is still how a Saturday begins.

Discipleship
We are called to make disciples (Matthew 28:18-20). We are making disciples both inside and outside of MHC!
Next Gen Outreach
We do not just serve the homeless, we serve the LOST! The next generation is so hungry for the truth, we are ready and excited to give it to them -- Jesus is the only answer.
Serving Saturdays
We walk the streets of downtown Tampa and downtown Gainesville, building relationships and introducing the LOST to Jesus.
Those three are not separate programmes with separate teams. The same volunteers do all of it, which is why a Saturday in downtown Tampa can include a sandwich handed to a man who sleeps under the interstate and a twenty minute conversation with a student on the way to a coffee shop, an hour apart.
Reaching people with love
Everyone, without a filter
MHC seeks to reach people from all backgrounds and walks of life, including individuals experiencing homelessness, college students, and people we encounter throughout the streets and communities of Tampa, Gainesville, and beyond. We believe every person is created in the image of God and deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and love.
Our outreach begins with love.
In practice that rules a few things out. Nobody is asked what they believe before being handed a bottle of water. Nobody has to sit through anything. The team has spent whole afternoons in downtown Tampa where the most useful thing anyone did was stand in the rain and listen to somebody who had not been listened to in a while.
Tampa is also not the only place this happens. The same work runs in Gainesville, and outreach has gone out during major city events, including the Gasparilla Parade and the St. Pete Pride Parade, because that is where people already are.
