SENT Sessions is the evangelism training initiative run by Making Heaven Crowded. It is designed to equip disciples with the biblical knowledge, practical skills and confidence to proclaim the Gospel, and it follows three steps: Equipped by the Word, Trained in Truth, Sent into the World.

Who is SENT Sessions for?

Anyone who wants to be able to talk about Jesus Christ with a stranger and does not yet feel able to. Most people who come through it are volunteers with the Tampa or Gainesville outreach teams, but you do not have to have been on an outreach first. Nobody is expected to arrive already trained.

Do I have to finish the training before I go out on an outreach?

No. New volunteers walk with experienced team members and are never sent out on their own, so you can start on the street and be equipped alongside it. SENT Sessions exists for the people who would rather understand what they believe before they try to explain it to somebody else.

What do the three steps actually mean?

Equipped by the Word means grounding what you say in Scripture rather than in opinion. Trained in Truth means practising the conversation itself, including the hard questions. Sent into the World means the training ends on the street, in Tampa or Gainesville, with a team, doing the thing you were trained to do.

What SENT Sessions is

SENT Sessions is the evangelism training run by Making Heaven Crowded in Tampa and Gainesville, Florida. It equips ordinary people with the biblical knowledge, the practical skills and the confidence to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and it follows three steps: Equipped by the Word, Trained in Truth, Sent into the World.

The reason it exists is simple. Most people who want to talk about Jesus with a stranger stop for the same two reasons — they are not sure they could answer the question that comes back, and they have never once practised the first sentence. A weekly outreach does not fix either of those on its own. A room where you can be wrong, ask the question you are embarrassed to ask, and try the conversation out loud does.

Our desire is for those who participate to not only learn about evangelism but to actively live as disciples who are willing to go.

The framework

Three steps, in order

Equipped by the Word. Everything a volunteer says on the street has to be able to come back to Scripture. That is the starting point, and it is deliberately first — not because the Bible is a script, but because a person who knows what the text actually says stops guessing when a conversation turns serious.
Trained in Truth. The second step is the part nobody gets anywhere else: practising. Saying it out loud. Being asked why you believe it by somebody who will push back, while you are still in a room with people who are on your side.
Sent into the World. Training that never leaves the room is not training. The last step is downtown Tampa or downtown Gainesville, on a Saturday, with a team, food in hand, talking to whoever stops.

The order matters more than the content of any single session. Knowledge without practice makes people quieter, not braver. Practice without the Word makes people confident about things they have not checked. The going is what turns both into something real.

Why we train at all

The Great Commission is a sending

Making Heaven Crowded takes its instructions from Matthew 28:18–20. This is the Great Commission. We are called to go and make disciples of ALL the nations. The verb in it is go, and a sending assumes somebody prepared to be sent. That is the whole argument for training: the commission is not “learn about disciples,” it is “make them.”

Two of the eight things this ministry set out to do are to equip future evangelists and missionaries and to train disciples to confidently share the gospel. SENT Sessions is how those two stop being a line on a page. Making Heaven Crowded was founded in October 2025 by a group of college students in Tampa and has grown from five volunteers to more than thirty, which only happens if the people already in it are able to explain what they are doing to the next person who asks.

It is also the answer to the most common thing we hear from someone who has come on one outreach and wants to come back. They did not find the street frightening. They found the moment a real question arrived and they had nothing prepared frightening. That is a fixable problem, and this is how it gets fixed.
