The reason for arranging rather than dropping is simple. Volunteers carry what they hand out, on foot, through downtown Gainesville. A bag that arrives the day before an outreach goes out that week. A bag left somewhere with nobody expecting it becomes a storage problem for a team that has no warehouse.

How to hand it off
Three steps
- Get in touch. Email Makingheavencrowdedtampa@gmail.com or call (941) 718-2867 and say roughly what you have and where you are.
- Sort and label. Socks with socks, shirts with shirts, sizes marked on the outside of the bag. Sorted bags get opened on the sidewalk; unsorted bags get opened in somebody’s car.
- Meet the team. The hand-off is usually timed around an upcoming outreach, so what you bring goes out days later rather than months later.

- New socks and new undergarments first, every time. After that, lightweight breathable shirts, shorts, ball caps and rain ponchos. Florida heat and afternoon storms decide this list, not the calendar, so summer-weight clothing is useful all year round.
- What should I not donate?
- Heavy winter coats, formal wear, anything torn or stained, and used socks or underwear. A volunteer carries what a team can hand out on foot, so bulky items that will not be taken take up space that something useful could have filled.
- Do the clothes have to be new?
- Socks and undergarments must be new and sealed. Everything else can be gently used as long as you would be comfortable wearing it yourself. Clean, sorted and clearly labeled by size is the difference between a bag that gets used next Saturday and one that sits.
- Can I give money instead of clothes?
- Yes, and sometimes it is more useful. A gift lets the team buy the specific sizes that ran out on the last outreach rather than the sizes that happened to be donated. The give page explains where each gift goes.
- Does Making Heaven Crowded run a thrift store or shelter?
- No. Making Heaven Crowded is a Christian evangelism and missions organization with branches in Tampa and Gainesville. Donated clothing goes out with volunteers on street outreach. It is not resold, and no shelter or housing service is operated.
